About Us

Our Biltong Story.

We are a family-owned, veteran-owned, and operated business with deep roots in South Africa.

Growing up in South Africa, Biltong, Chili Bites, and Droëwors weren’t just snacks—they were a way of life!

Our journey began in 1999 when our family emigrated to the U.S. As we embraced our new home, we enjoyed discovering different flavors and traditions. However, there were certain things we missed—most notably, Biltong.

In 2001, we decided to try our hand at making it ourselves. Our first attempt? A complete disaster—using meat from a local ostrich farmer was not our best idea! But failure only fueled our determination. We were committed to perfecting a recipe that would bring the true taste of South African Biltong to life—without the ostrich.

Over the past 20+ years, we’ve experimented with countless recipes and cuts of meat. Through trial and error, we crafted a flavor that captures the essence of authentic South African Biltong. As we shared our creations with friends and family, we heard a common theme—people couldn’t get enough. Some even claimed they were “addicted.” That feedback sparked a desire to share our passion with the world.

In 2020, despite a global pandemic, we relocated to the Tampa area, secured USDA approval, built our facility, and navigated the complexities of permitting. It wasn’t easy, but giving up was never an option. Our perseverance paid off, and Byte Biltong was born.

Our company is a tribute to our love for both our heritage and our new home. We take pride in crafting a product that is not only delicious but also healthy—something everyone, from the young to the young at heart, can enjoy.

At Byte Biltong, we don’t just make Biltong—we share a piece of our culture, one bite at a time.

We hope that our new found friends will enjoy our Biltong as much as we do.
